It has been a long time since an ABC breakfast show was No 1 in a metro or provincial market and in Canberra, where the ABC has always been a strong contender, in GfK Survey 1 2026, Ross Solly (pictured) has done just that.
Mix 106.3 remained the overall top station with Kristen and Nige on breakfast’s 20.4 (-1.6) overhauled by Solly’s 4.7 gain to 20.7. Capital Radio Network stations 2CA and 2CC also had particularly good results with Radio National the biggest loser. 2RN‘s survey 3, 2025 results were extraordinary, 9.4 overall and 14.3 for Sally Sara on breakfast. This survey it was 3.9 and 6.0 respectively with the listeners choosing other talk options like Solly and Stephen Cenatiempo on 2CC.
Pat Griffin and Larry Appley who host Workdays and Afternoons on Mix had exceptional results. Pat was up 5.1 to 28.7 and Larry 3.0 to 32.0. With ARN looking at Christian O’Connell and Jonesy and Amanda as networked options (Mix takes the hour long catch ups of these shows between 7-9pm) Canberra has resoundingly supported local, and talk.

The Canberra market is clearly demonstrating that not all capital city markets are the same.
Its a repeated theme in many articles on this site that one nationally linked program does not satisfy all capital city markets.
To illustrate, unlike other markets spoken word programs provided by the ABC especially outrate commercial talk 2CC.
As the last line in the article says "...Canberra has resoundingly supported local, and talk...."
