The Switzers – Like Father Like Son Like Money

It’s on for young and old in the Switzer family as son, Marty, follows in his father Peter’s footsteps. They are now both doing their own series of Tax Tips through Radiowise.

While Paul Clitheroe’s annual series of Tax Tips (now in its eighth year) will be heard on 102 stations across Australia from next month, most of those stations target people over 35. Despite this success, Radiowise Joint CEO, Peter Saxon, feels that there is a desperate need for someone who appeals to a younger audience, “At this time of year, virtually anyone who’s joined the workforce, from 16 and up, is interested in how to get a decent refund without a visit from the taxman.

“Finding a younger version of Paul, someone who had credibility with money and street cred as well, has not been easy. Then one morning I happened to hear Marty filling in on his father’s regular spot with Mike Carlton on 2UE. He called a dollar a buck and a thousand bucks a grand and sounded like he belonged on FM”, said Saxon.

At just 24, Marty Switzer has a degree in economics, has spent time as a stockbroker and is well on the way to becoming a qualified financial planner. But he’s opted to pursue a career in the family media business alongside his famous dad, Peter.

Peter Switzer (above) will also be doing a series of Tax Tips to be broadcast on the Southern Cross Network.

Although Marty’s no stranger to radio, Tax Tips 2004 has the potential to catapult him onto a national network rivalling Clitheroe’s, if early take-up is any indication. Within hours of the release of the demo last Friday afternoon, scores of stations had signed up.

Saxon says, “Paul Clitheroe’s Tax Tips is perennially one of our most sought after programs. It’s a no-brainer for most stations. It’s great programming, and its easy for stations to sell sponsorship to a local tax agent. Marty Switzer’s Tax Tips will give stations and their clients the opportunity to target a younger market.”

Stations interested in broadcasting either Marty or Peter Switzer’s Tax Tips should call Sasha Kahan at Radiowise on (02) 9438 4000 to check availability in their market.
