Radio National, 702 ABC Sydney and 2SER are getting in on the literary action this year at the Sydney Writers Festival.
The annual writers festival is almost upon us once again, and more of it will be available over the airwaves than ever before.
Running from May 20 to 26, this year’s Festival looks at the depth and breadth of storytelling and celebrates the simple pleasure of being told a great tale.
Thursday May 23
10 – 11am: RN’s literary program, Books and Arts Daily with Michael Cathcart, will be in residence at the Festival and will interview South African novelist, journalist and screenwriter Lauren Beukes.
7 – 8:30pm: 2SER’s ‘In Conversation’ series continues, with Music Director Andrew Khedoori interviewing two of Australia’s best-loved songwriters, Holly Throsby and Darren Hanlon, about their craft. Whilst not live, this event will be available for podcast from www.2ser.com.
7 – 10pm: 702 ABC Sydney’s Evenings with Dom Knight broadcasts from the Sydney Dance Lounge.
Friday May 24
9 – 11am: 702 puts on a full day of entertainment at the “literary hub”, at the Pier 2/3 Club Lounge, Walsh Bay. Linda Mottram‘s Mornings program kicks it off.
10 – 11am: RN’s Books and Arts Daily will be joined in the Sydney Dance Cafe by Festival guests including Daniel Morden, Patrick Ness and Kate Tempest.
11am – 12pm: 702’s Richard Fidler‘s Conversations features Cheryl Strayed at the Pier 2/3 Club Lounge, Walsh Bay.
1 – 3pm: James Valentine continues the fun on 702 at the Pier 2/3 Club Lounge.
3 – 4pm: Richard Fidler’s Conversations is back, featuring Jackie Kay at the Pier 2/3 Club Lounge.
5 – 6pm: Special SWF edition of Thank God It’s Friday with Richard Glover at the Pier 2/3 Club Lounge.
6 – 8pm: Julian Morrow and RN Drive will take to the Cafe stage with music, festival guests and a special literary version of the RN Drive quiz, Question Time.
Saturday May 25
10am: RN’s Life Matters presenter Natasha Mitchell leads an international panel on contemporary feminism featuring Jude Kelly, Shami Chakrabarti and Kate Mosse.
11.30am: The Inside Sleeve’s Robbie Buck in conversation with music journalist Sylvie Simmons on RN, about her acclaimed biography of Canadian songwriter Leonard Cohen’s ‘I’m Your Man’.
Until 4pm: Sarah Kanowski, Presenter of RN’s Weekend Arts, will interview authors and Festival goers and present a selection of Festival sessions
Sunday May 26
1 – 4pm: RN presents highlights from the Festival’s best sessions.
