Beloved indie gig guide platform SydneyMusic has been saved from closure.
The free website, that has been instrumental in showcasing emerging local Sydney talent, was set to shutdown this weekend, due to lack of funds, but has been saved by RØDE and a flurry of other donations and support.
The Sydney music scene’s biggest supporter can now continue its vital work for local artists.
RØDE stepped in to ensure that SydneyMusic it can keep championing up-and-coming acts and connecting punters with the best new music. “At a time when many local platforms and musicians are facing significant challenges, this partnership offers a lifeline for the community, preserving a space where Sydney’s talent can thrive and, most importantly, be heard,” says RØDE.
The non-profit, volunteer-run guide allows bands to post info about their gigs and venues to inform people of upcoming music events.
A post on the website announcing the good news says:
“A significant part of this turnaround has been made possible by RØDE, who reached out shortly after the announcement. They have pledged to fund a portion of our monthly budget for the next 2 years and will be on board as a core sponsor for this next era of SydneyMusic. We’re incredibly grateful and excited to have them on board.”

Heaps Normal also reached out, asking how they coudl help. The company is “making a significant contribution to boost [the guide’s] resources at this crucial point.”
SydneyMusic readers also “really showed up for us: last month we exceeded our best month of one-off donations by +67%… after we’d announced we were shutting down,” said the post.
