TAFE NSW graduate lands a role at SBS Radio

Alex Anifantis has impressed his teachers by quickly gaining a position as an Audio Producer at SBS Radio that he says is thanks to TAFE NSW.

He’s joined the radio industry at a time when people are turning to radio as a critical source of information and connection during the COVID-19 crisis.

Redfern local Alex was already working in the media but wanted to pursue some additional industry-standard training to improve his employability prospects, and says, “I was already working in media but I could see that there were some areas where my skills could use some improvement.

“I knew that pursuing a course at TAFE NSW would give me the hands-on, practical skills in audio production I needed to take the next step in my career, so I couldn’t wait to start.”

Alex enrolled in the Certificate IV of Screen and Media (Radio) at TAFE NSW Ultimo in Semester 1 2021 and has now secured a position as an audio producer at SBS.

Head Teacher of Screen and Media at TAFE NSW Natalie Pozdeev says the Certificate IV of Screen and Media (Radio Broadcasting) tackles production of multiplatform content, interviewing, announcing, and operating a radio panel.

“Through the course, students gain a range of practical journalism and audio production skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment.

“Our aim is to make sure our students are ready to walk into any radio studio in the country and immediately get to work, which many of our students go on to achieve.”

Alex says that even though COVID-19 caused some disruption to his study, the new job he has secured is solid proof that he made the right choice to pursue further study and improve his skills.

“It’s definitely worth taking a course at TAFE NSW if your dream is to make it in the media industry. The teachers will help you make it through and you will surely come out the other side as a better equipped and more educated professional.”
