Gary Barlow is ‘back for good’ on the Smooth FM Network on a Saturday afternoon between 4 and 5pm with a personal collection of songs and stories. This writer apologises for the Take That pun and will try to restrain herself from more.
The show will include hits like Prince’s ‘When Doves Cry’¸ Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’, and Amy Winehouse’s ‘Valerie’, Madonna, the Eurythmics Elton John and a few personal anecdotes from the UK star who kept a lot of people connected during the pandemic with his Crooner Series.
Peter Clay, NOVA Entertainment’s Head of Programming for Smooth FM said:
“Gary’s music has been a regular on Smooth FM since the network was launched. He’s a terrific artist and was part of one of the world’s biggest genre-defining boy bands, so it’s a pleasure to welcome him to the lineup. Ahead of Take That’s return to Australia later this year, we can’t wait to share Gary’s new show with listeners.”
The tour of Australia, featuring Ellis-Bexter in support, happens across October and November, with tickets on sale this week.
Take That began as a five-piece in 1989, enjoying immediate success with their first two albums here and in the UK particularly. Gary’s subsequent solo career include the chart topping album ‘Music Played By Human’ and began a career diversification into musical theatre, television, songwriting for film and the Covid Crooner sessions.
Barlow joins a long list of artists and personalities who have been part of the Smooth FM lineup over the years including Sir Rod Stewart, Michael Bublé, Olivia Newton-John, Neil Diamond, Elton John, Ronan Keating and Dolly Parton.
Waiting for Gary Barlow won’t require a lot of ‘patience’. The show commences this Saturday, February 10, from 4pm to 5pm, on the Smooth FM Network or via the Smooth Player to ‘relight your fire’.
