Radio Joint Audience Research, the official body in charge of measuring radio audiences in the UK, have released their first quarter data for 2023, with positive results for both live radio listening and DAB.
The data found 88% of UK adults (aged 15+) are tuning into radio every week, with the average listening time of that audience, 20.4 hours per week. 67% were listening digitally, with just less than a third, 32% listening via AM or FM.
64% are listening to radio via their smart speakers, with 33% of them doing it every day.
The most interesting finding of this data is where the audience is listening. Recently the Jacobs Media Strategies Techsurvey 2023 showed that in the US, amongst that survey’s participants, the car was the most common place to listen to their favourite radio station (39%). RAJAR showed listening at home at 62%, perhaps reflective of the transition of many to working from home or a hybrid work style.
