Triple J to host the Soulwax Brothers at Vivid

David and Stephen Dewaele, the Belgian brothers responsible for turntablists ‘2manydjs’ and electronic band ‘Soulwax’, will be presenting a one-off series of radio shows on Triple J as part of the Vivid Live Festival.  The show runs from 6-7pm, this week, finishing on Friday 3 June.

Each night they will perform themed sets, and ask listeners for ideas regarding what to include in their mixes. They will also interview some of the Vivid Live artists backstage at the Sydney Opera House.

In October last year they foreshadowed that they would be concentrating on mixes, conceptually based on a radio program:

“The most important thing we’ve been working on is that we’re actually making a radio as 2manyDJs, called Radio Soulwax, because we’ve been wanting to do that for so long. It’s a bit like when we play as 2manyDJs, we have the screen behind us and we show the record sleeve of the song that we’re playing. So Dave and me started making these mix hours and we’re completely animating them and we’re going to start that at the end of November.”

Soulwax’s last album briefly held the world record the most characters in an album title. The full title of the double-CD compilation is 552 characters long. This is the title:

“Most of the remixes we’ve made for other people over the years except for the one for Einstürzende Neubauten because we lost it and a few we didn’t think sounded good enough or just didn’t fit in length-wise, but including some that are hard to find because either people forgot about them or simply because they haven’t been released yet, a few we really love, one we think is just ok, some we did for free, some we did for money, some for ourselves without permission and some for friends as swaps but never on time and always at our studio in Ghent.”
