triple j’s Good Friday promotion not Pope approved

Not that His Holiness would have read the triple j media release that starts, “Celebrate your crucifixion-based public holiday painlessly with triple j as we broadcast live to the nation on Good Az Friday.” And it’s doubtful he would tune in or turn up if he had. Hosting the live show as part of The Melbourne Comedy Festival are triple j Breakfast presenters Tom & Alex, alongside roving comedian Sam Simmons and a theatre full of funnies.

For those who are not observant Christians and would rather be roaring with laughter at the Melbourne Town Hall than singing hymns in church, triple j’s offering a world class list of comedians including Aussie gal Celia Pacquola from ABC TV’s black comedy LAID, Glenn Wool, a laidback Canadian who describes himself as a modern day nomad and everyone’s favourite famous bizzaro Tom Green

Joining them is charmer and comedy festival regular Stephen K Amos, the totally unpredictable Paul Foot, plus grumpy old man and Barry Award winner Mike Wilmot. Then there’s Andy Kindler – a regular on Letterman, Conan O’Brien, the Daily Show and heaps more.

Angelic songstress Lisa Mitchell will be performing a cover for Like A Version live from the Town Hall. And there’ll be the free-for-all Friday Dance Off.

The event happens live from Melbourne’s Town Hall and broadcast live on triple j from midday till 3pm.

Good Friday has also been designated Ross Noble Day on triple j with the comic taking over the station for 11.5 hours from breakfast through Drive.

Noble (pictured) will be set challenges by the audience, to complete throughout the day. Meeting his challengers in their chosen locations and competing for their entertainment, Noble will report back to Zan Rowe and Lewis McKirdy to let them know where, why and what (the hell) he has been up to. Once the challenges are complete Noble will return to triple j to co-host with The Doctor until 5.30pm.
