triple j has a new show and Double J makes some changes

triple j is kicking off 2022 with a brand-new specialist show on soul ctrl

Hosted by Tyrone Pynorsoul ctrl is a weekly dose of neo-soul, RNB and smooth jams every Monday night from 9pm.

Tyrone’s currently hosts triple j Weekend Lunch and hails from Mount Druitt, with his roots in PNG and the Torres Strait, he is a true lover of all music.

 Tyrone says, “I’m excited for soul ctrl to be the space that teenage Tyrone wanted. Soul, neo-soul and R&B are such a big part of my life and it’s exciting to see a community of artists in Australia continually growing. Now, for two hours straight on a Monday night I’ll be playing you the best new music from these genres, and I can’t wait to really build something together.”

triple j’s Australian music show Home & Hosed is being brought forward by an hour to 8pm – 9pm hosted by Declan Byrne every Monday through to Thursday for a snapshot of what our country sounds like right now.

Plus, the following program time changes are kicking off this year

  • triple j specialist shows soul ctrlThe RacketShort Fast Loud & The Hip Hop Show will be brought forward to 9pm – 11pm
  • Live at the Wireless will now be at 7pm on Monday nights
  • Good Nights will now be from Monday – Thursday from 6pm – 8pm (with host Bridget Hustwaite using her extra time to work on digital content projects)
  • House Party is expanding to Friday and Saturday nights with Fridays hosted by Shantan Wantan Ichiban, while Saturday continues with Jade Zoe.

triple j Assistant Music Director Gemma Pike, is leaving the ABC after 10 years to pursue other exciting opportunities. Gemma Pike also departs as the host of Double J program The J Files, with Caz Tran continuing as presenter after filling in for Gemma in 2021.

In 2022, Angharad Yeo joins as host of Double J Weekends. Angharad ‘Rad’ Yeo is an award-winning television presenter, video game critic, technology journalist and one of the hosts of ABC’s Good Game Spawn Point. She is also host of technology podcast Queens of the Drone Age, ABC Science’s Elevator Pitch and Rad Experiments, and ABC Listen’s How Games Play Us.

Angharad says, “In my humble (yet professional) opinion, Double J is one of the best radio stations in the country. I’m honoured to be joining a lineup of powerhouse presenting talent that I greatly admire, and a hard-working team of people who make the station so great. Music has always been such a key part of my life, and I’m totally stoked to be able to vibe with everyone over some banger tunes on a weekend.

That means Dylan Lewis is wrapping up as Weekends host on Double J but will remain part of the Double J family and his unbridled enthusiasm will still be heard regularly across the station in 2022.
