triple j has received 2,758,584 votes for the 2018 Hottest 100, officially busting last year’s figure by over 370,000 votes, up by nearly 15% on 2017.
With the poll now closed, and the station busy pouring over the votes to put together the countdown this weekend, here are some interesting stats:
- The most common age of voters was 18
- More than 60% of voters were aged 24 and under
- Around 80% of voters were under 30
- Once again, more women than men voted this year (53% female, 45% male, 2% Non-binary/Other/No answer)
- Local votes came from NSW 29%, VIC 23%, QLD 19%, WA 10%, SA 8%, ACT & TAS both 3% and NT 1%
- At 5%, overseas votes nearly doubled from last year

- 21 artists appear in a Hottest 100 for the very first time
- 31 artists first heard on triple j Unearthed
- 5 songs which were uploaded to Unearthed in 2018
- 2 artists have back-to-back songs
- 8 artists celebrate a Hottest 100 hat-trick, appearing 3 years in a row
