Triple J’s Hottest 100 voting open

The world’s biggest listener voted music poll, triple j’s Hottest 100, was launched this week by two previous number one winners.

Last year’s winners, Queens Of The Stone Age were on hand to cast their vote, and predict the number one song of 2003. Josh Homme is on the record predicting that Outkast’s catchy cool track “Hey Ya” will romp it in.

Last year, previous Hottest 100 winner Alex Lloyd successfully predicted that the Queens would come in at number one. So which song has the guru declared as his favourite to cross the line from 2003? None other than “Gay Bar” by Electric Six.

Voting in the Hottest 100 is done through the triple j website. After criticism in previous years, the station has “beefed up the security of the voting system this year, to make sure that the Hottest 100 is uncorrupted by anyone trying to rig it.”

People now have to register to vote, and this year listeners can only vote for your 10 favourite songs. There are over 1000 songs from 2003 to choose from.

Voters have a chance to win 62 outstanding albums from triple j.

Voting closes at 6pm on Friday January 23rd, and the station will play the list on Sunday January 25th.
