Triple M Toowoomba, Queensland’s first commercial radio station, celebrates 100 years

It was a heck of a party last night, Thursday August 14 2025, as Queensland’s first commercial radio station Triple M Toowoomba (formerly 4GR 864AM) celebrated its 100th birthday in style with hundreds of guests, past and present staff, and community leaders at The Powerhouse.

There were speeches, special guests, and a powerhouse live performance by Aussie rocker The Screaming Jets, led by Triple M’s Dave Gleeson (see above).

In the lead up to the event breakfast host Lee Faulkner took listeners for a trip down memory lane, interviewing former station favourites including Graham Healy, John Fielding and Kim Stokes (main image). Lee himself has been with 4GR / Triple M in the Garden City since 2001.

Then everyone backed up this morning for a special outside broadcast and acoustic set from Dave Gleeson at Grand Central Shopping Centre!

Ken Wood, SCA Executive General Manager Queensland, said:

“Triple M Toowoomba is 100 years young and is a station known for its energy and enthusiasm. This station has been the heartbeat of Toowoomba for a century – from its inception as 4GR to its current form as Triple M. It’s been great to take a trip down memory lane and celebrate this historic milestone with plenty of cake and balloons.”

Blair Woodcock, SCA Head of Regional Content, said:

“It’s a testament to the legacy of Triple M Toowoomba – formerly known as 4GR – how this community continue to rally around this station. We’re so proud to celebrate 100 years of being live and local in Toowoomba and excited about continuing the deliver engaging, entertaining content to The Garden City into the future.”
