Two Tamworth awards for Erby

Commercial radio’s leading country music program has taken out the Australian County Music People’s Choice Award in Tamworth for the most popular radio station or program.

Country Music Radio (CMR) is Nick Erby’s Country Music program broadcast across Bill Caralis’ Super Network every Saturday and Sunday night and public holidays from 6pm. Brian Howard takes over the reins at midnight.

CMR is presented live from 2TM’s studios in Tamworth.

2TM originated the major Country Music Awards (now the CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia) in 1973 – and has broadcast all 35 years of the Awards.

Again this year CMR was the host radio broadcaster for the CMAA Awards, producing a 4 hour block which included a preview of the Awards and a live broadcast which was distributed across the Super network and the Community sector. Southern Cross distributed a highlights package the next day.

Erby had a particularly successful festival, also taking out the Tamworth Songwriter’s Association’s Tex Morton Award.

The Tex Morton Award goes to a person, not necessarily a songwriter, who has made outstanding contributions to the cause of Country Music in Australia.

John Nutting, ABC Radio’s Saturday Night Country host, has won the ‘Most Popular DJ’ category of the Australian Country Music People’s Choice Awards.
