Upcoming AFTRS Open Radio Courses

AFTRS Open has a number of introductory and advanced radio courses in the coming months.

They include Announcing and Presentation starting on 18 May and the online CRA course – The Creative Art of Radio Copywriting starting on 27 April. Details of these and many more courses below.
 
CRA SHORT COURSES
 
The Creative Art of Radio Copywriting: Online
Looking for some creative inspiration and motivation to pep up your ads and improve the return on the advertiser’s investment? AFTRS Creative Craft of Radio Copywriting is a 12 week online course where participants work collaboratively on real case scenarios. This 12 week online course will include 7 x 1 hour online conference calls. These will take place on selected Tuesdays from 1730 – 1830 AEST. You are also expected to dedicate four hours per week on the self-directed exercises and assignments

Total study time over the 12 weeks is approximately 55 hours. Each student will need to have access to a computer, email and have their own Skype account.

RADIO SHORT COURSES
 
Advanced Voice Over
Take the next step!  Advanced Voice Over is a two day course over two weekends, aimed to build on the skills developed in the AFTRS Open Voice Over course or for those with some experience with professional voice over work to further polish their skills. A small group (maximum 8) and focus on performance will allow for more on mic time to work on strengths and weaknesses. The course also provides opportunity to identify an area of specialization during practical sessions.

Announcing and Presentation
On air radio industry professionals Gaby Brown (Triple J, KIIS 106.5 FM, WSFM) and Melanie Withnall (Managing Director 2ser 107.3, Senior Producer 702 ABC Sydney) are the tutors for this practical and inspiring course where you will acquire invaluable skills and knowledge to enhance and advance your career.

Voice Over
Just having a great voice is not enough — you need the skills to be able to use it properly. Industry experts Gaby Brown (Triple J) and Simon Harvey will give you the techniques to get the best out of your voice to get a start in the voice over industry. This two-day intensive course features numerous practical exercises in the AFTRS state-of-the-art Radio studios.

Radio News Fundamentals
Need a radio news demo?   The role of the Newsreader/Journalist includes research, writing and presenting on air news stories.   Over two days, advance your skills in writing and recording news bulletins using NewsBoss® and the latest AAP newswire service in AFTRS’ state of the art facilities.   Learn from 2GB news radio expert Jess Campanaro, using industry software and techniques to create a radio news demo of your own!

Advanced Announcing & Presentation
With access to AFTRS’ state-of-the-art studios, students will work together in small groups to choose a subject area and work with Rachel to plan and present their own show. They will also be taken through the process of editing the resulting audio and at the conclusion of the course will have the knowledge and skills to begin their own podcast.

WINTER SCHOOL: Intro to TV & Radio Presenting
Develop your own on-air persona and learn skills to develop your career in the media. You’ll receive practical tuition in on-camera presenting including writing your own scripts, conducting interviews on camera, voice over skills for TV and radio, announcing, working with autocue and developing your own unique presenting style.
