The URL is the new transmitter: Rhys Holleran

Southern Cross Austereo CEO Rhys Holleran discussed plans for the network to “regain metro share” in a presentation to the Macquarie Australian Securities Investor Conference.

“Southern Cross Media is a multi-media enterprise with national scale,” said Holleran.

As well as regaining listenership and advertising share on its radio networks, SCA aims to use online platforms to expand its revenue.

The company has 57 individual regional websites with 16.403 average daily unique browsers. There are 53 facebook pages and 35 twitter pages.

Metro and regional stations have different strategies, according to Holleran’s presentation.


The strategy for metro growth hinges around complimentary branding for the Hit and Triple M networks.


Holleran says “the URL is the new transmitter,” and increased digital publishing will facilitate “broadcast amplification.”
