US Satellite Radio Broadcasters talking to iPod about receivers

In another convergence move, US satellite channels Sirius and XM are talking to Apple about the possibility of including satellite radio receivers in iPods.

The move is another example of radio’s race to be heard on potential new receiver platforms. If radio stations, especially new digital radio services are not available on a range of receivers it is likely that other players will steal the ground from radio broadcasters as potential receiver technology runs way ahead of the radio industry and allies with telcos and podcasters and other competitive audio program suppliers.

XM President Hugh Panero says: “There’s a dialog going. We’ll see what happens.”

XM continues to grow, with the release of its third satellite last month to replace one of the company’s two original Boeing satellites.

The company reports average churn of only 1.2% per month.
