Well known Melbourne radio identity Bob Taylor passed away at the weekend at the age of 79.

While best known in commercial radio for his time running the Announcers Academy with Ian Nicholls, Bob had had a long career in radio.

At 14 Bob hosted Stars of Tomorrow, a 30-minute show for children under 16 at 3XY.

On leaving school he began as an office boy at 3KZ before joining 3XY at 18, as Melbourne’s youngest announcer at the time.

In the mid 60s he made the move to 7HT for just over a year, and then to the Victorian Broadcasting Network for a decade working at all of their stations including 3SH, 3CV, 3HA and 3TR as Program Director before moving into sales

At age 32, Bob started the Announcers Academy, running it with Ian Nicholls for 27 years, and became the voice coach for all of the TV stations and hundreds of aspiring radio announcers.

When the school finally closed in 1999, Bob moved onto community radio at Stereo 974 Brooklyn for most of the next two decades.
