David Morrow has died after a short battle with brain cancer. “Thirsty” retired from his Nine Radio and 2GB commentary role just six months ago to focus on family and had recently celebrated his 71st birthday.
The timing is poignant with the third State of Origin tonight and the 2024 Paris Olympics commencing this month as well.
Morrow covered 44 seasons of first grade NRL, eight Olympic Games and six Commonwealth Games. He also called horse racing and cricket matches in his earlier roles, including with the ABC for more than three decades.
Morrow had been with Nine Radio for nine years. His Continuous Call Team colleague and friend of more than 40 years Ray Hadley paid tribute earlier:
Last week it was announced that Morrow would be inducted into the NRL Hall of Fame.
Morrow is survived by his wife Christine and daughters.
