Vale Ernie Sigley

Former 3AW and 3LO presenter Ernie Sigley has died from complications related to Alzheimers.

He was 82 years old and was diagnosed with the disease in 2016.

Sigley retired from the 3AW afternoon shift in 2008 after 12 years in the timeslot. He previously was heard on 3LO ABC Melbourne and other Melbourne commercial stations.

Sigley’s career began in radio with Melbourne station 3DB, before he moved to Europe where he spent two years 1950s, working at the BBC and Radio Luxembourg, before moving back to Australia and Adelaide where he hosted Adelaide Tonight in the early 70’s.

In the 1970s Sigley teamed up with Denise Drysdale for The Ernie Sigley Show, and Saturday Night Live, and in the early 80’s he was the original Australian host of game show Wheel of Fortune.

Ernie Sigley was married for 47 years to Glenys O’Brien, with whom he had four children.
