Radio Legend Jeff ‘Sundo’ Sunderland has passed away aged 73

The radio family at 1125 5MU are devastated at the loss of their much loved and respected colleague Jeff ‘Sundo’ Sunderland.

Despite the best efforts of his colleagues, The CFS and Ambulance Crews, Sundo passed away at work just after midday today July 2nd.

Jeff was a legend in the Australia radio industry, with a record breaking 50 consecutive number one surveys during his time on Adelaide’s 5AD (now MIX102.3FM) and was still rating number one when he left the station.

Sundo has spent the last ten years of his career waking up the Adelaide Hills, Murraylands and Southern Fleurieu on the 1125 5MU breakfast show where his long-time friendship with Anne Wills continued, the pair talking on his breakfast show for the last time on the day he passed away.

5MU Program Director Mel Dzelde says Sundo will be dearly missed. “The 5MU family has lost a very much-loved colleague and friend today. As an SA Radio Icon, we were honoured to have Jeff Sunderland as part of our team. Our thoughts are now with his family. For our 5MU listeners we will celebrate Jeff’s career tomorrow morning on 5MU from 6am. For the last Sundo’s Big breakfast.”

A report is still in the process of being prepared for the coroner with a cause of death yet to be determined. Jeff Sunderland was 73.
