Vale Jeppo

Peter Jepperson was a much loved colleague of all at ABC Radio Melbourne. He passed away this week after a long illness, aged 69.

Jeppo made his debut on ABC Radio as part of the first PM program in 1969.

After a brief secondment to the Prime Minister’s Department for Expo 70 he returned to the ABC as a current affairs reporter in 1971.

For the next decade he reported on state and federal politics, social issues and the changes to the National Wage System, as well as travelling to the Middle East in 1975.

In 1981 he reported for Money Talk on metro radio, then took on the role of senior reporter for ABC Current Affairs department in Melbourne in 1983.

Jeppo went on to present a range of programs on ABC Local Radio, before moving into teaching journalism at Victoria and Deakin Universities.

In a tribute to Jeppo on the ABC News website, Helen Richardson remembered Jeppo’s speed, especially when on deadline: “No one fired up with an approaching deadline like Jeppo, no one was quicker cutting tapes and splicing them together to get the story ready.”
