Vale Ken Archer

Former CEO of CBN Ken Archer has passed away at the grand age of 95.

He was the oldest surviving Australian Test Cricketer.

Roger Summerill wrote on Facebook, Ken  started his working life as a science teacher. In 1954 he was headhunted by the head of the CBN network, Sir Lincoln (Bob) Hynes, to join 4BC in Brisbane.

His brother Ron, also an outstanding cricketer  worked in the Brisbane media market in both Radio and TV.

Ken  and Sir  Lincoln had a close working relationship with Ken becoming the right hand man of Sir Lincoln.

When Sir Lincoln retired, Ken was the obvious choice to take on the CEO role at CBN.

It was then, when I was at 2UW,  that I came to know Ken.

In 1980 Ken received a Member of the Order of Australia  Award in the Australia Day awards, for his services to Australian media.

After Ken left CBN he started a new and illustrious career with the Australian Broadcasting Tribunal (now the ACMA).

Ken was a  regular attendee at our lunches until his wife’s illness prevented him from joining us.

However, he always  appreciated catching up on any news that we shared.
