Ron Collett was for a long time the Chief Engineer at 2UW, the AM forerunner to KIIS 106.5 FM.
Mr Collett was 93. We’ll have more from those who knew him best along with funeral arrangements when they come to hand.

Ron: Technically impossible - but it happened.
Laconic and lay back, I never ever saw him in a bad mood or temper, frustrated and stretched at times but always a smile, even though he thought all on air people were fools.
Good on ya Ron, tell god it's technically impossible!! from the Pearly Gates.
Malcolm T Elliott ex 2UW Breakfast 1972-1976
Ron Collett was my first boss when I started at the NEWUW in 1969 at the age of 16 as a trainee technician thinking myself so important getting a job in Sydney Radio when I was a country boy. He was an amazing man, slowly teaching me the differences in replacing a fluorescent ballast in the basement looking at "Gerald the Grasshopper". I started on the same day that Lawsie moved in - and could never understand why on that morning no-one was paying me a lot of attention! Ron had invented analogue six second delay cartridge loops, something never tried before. None of this fancy digital stuff - just reversed the heads on a record cart. deck and away we went!! It all worked - thanks to Ron. I remember him helping me with my "homework" from the Marconi School of Wireless while I struggled to get through my BOCP. From memory, he came from Inverell where he was apparently a bit of a lad on motorbikes!
Onya Ron Collett - there was none better.
