Vale Steve Wakely

Steve Wakely has died today, July 5, after a battle with liver cancer, aged 75.

Steve had been involved in radio since 1965 and in 1982 assisted with the pilot course from the new radio department with the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). He later assisted with the engineering of the Moore Park studios.

Steve worked with and for 2UE, 2GB, was audio director for TV shows No 96 and The Restless Years and once had a Big Steve column with Go Set magazine.

With thanks to audiophile and radio historian Frank Iuston, below is a demo tape of Steve’s.

After moving to the Gold Coast Steve continued to frequently get involved and catch up with radio friends past and present and was an enthusiastic contributor to radio and television history and its future.

The funeral is likely to be a private cremation with a possible memorial service at a future date.
