At the wake for Robert “Pommy Bob” Taylor

Former workmates of Robert “Pommy Bob” Taylor – gathered at the Rag and Famish hotel in North Sydney on Friday to pay their respects following his recent passing.

Pommy Bob, as he was affectionately known, had a 35-year career as the control room operator at 2UE commencing in 1975 until his retirement.

He recently passed away at home with his wife Penny by his side. He was aged 70.

Pommy Bob met Penny on a John Laws around Australia trip in 1990. On the first leg of the trip from Sydney to Cairns, Pommy Bob was sitting with 2UE sales legend Jock Kelso when he decided to go and talk to some of the listeners. One of those listeners was a stunning blonde – Penny from Sydney, who took Bob’s fancy. This was the start of a wonderful relationship and within a year, the two were married in Lawsie’s office. True romance.

Alan Jones who spent many years with Bob sent his condolences from Brisbane to Bob’s family. “Bob was a lovely loyal dedicated and knowledgeable contributor to our success. I will always remember him and be grateful for his many helpful acts. Much love. Alan”

Attending the wake were Jock Kelso, Paul Bowd, Suzy Yates, Chris Kearns, Leigh Maloney, Kerry Newell, Cathy Lee, Trevor Thompson, Di Plenty, Rose Dunn and Dominic Steele.
