Weekend changes for ABC Radio Victoria

Changes are happening at ABC 774 now that the football season is over and Francis Leech’s program has ended. Tonya Roberts will get extended time in her shift and Peter Clarke will take over Sundays.

Peter Clarke has been appointed ABC Local Radio’s first full-time Arts Reporter and will also present a new statewide Sunday Morning program beginning next year.

Announcing the appointment, ABC Victoria’s Local Radio Manager Ian Mannix said Sunday Morning would commence in the new broadcast year following the completion of Clarke’s secondment to Radio Australia. He was previously host of ABC 774’s evening show.

Peter Burch and Chris Keogh will continue to present The Sunday Show in its current format until 22 December 2002 on ABC Local Radio across Victoria from 10.00 am.

“From early next year Sunday Morning will take an in-depth look at the arts and cultural life of Victoria. The program will interact with the audience through outside broadcasts, online media and community input… This appointment meets our commitment to the arts community that we will significantly enhance resources on this valuable arts program,” said Mannix.

In other weekend changes at ABC 774 Tonya Roberts (pictured) has begun presenting an extended Saturday Morning program, which has been increased by two hours, going through to midday “to give listeners more finance, more gardening, more pet care, more handy hints and more time to get set for the weekend.”

According to ABC 774 the extended program’s content will include:

What’s On? – a new segment where we rely on you to tell us what is happening around town either that day or anytime over the weekend. We invite event organisers to call in and give us a report on the where, when, what and who. Whether it be a fete, school fair or community activity that we can highlight (tree planting days, market days and public gatherings), we want to hear about it.

Dr. Michael McCoy, Exercise Physiologist and 774 ABC Melbourne’s resident Fitness and Nutrition personal trainer, will be on hand after 7.00am to answer any health queries you may have.

If it’s visiting gardens that you are interested in, tune in after 7.30am for Australia’s Open Garden Scheme and find out what and where is open.

From 8.30am each of the popular information talkback segments will be extended to nearly an hour and broadcast on 774 ABC Melbourne and ABC Local Radio across Victoria.

Finance Advice – From 8.30am either Kevin Bailey, Sarah Robinson or Monique Wakelin will take calls on any questions or queries relating finance.

Home Maintenance – Whether it’s handy work, odd-jobs or major tasks around the home, tune in at 9.25am to ask one of our experts, David Norman or Peter Mason their advice.

Gardening – At 9.55am don’t miss our favourite ‘green thumbs’, Kevin Heinz or Carolyn Blackman to have your trickiest gardening issues answered.

Petcare and Animal Welfare – Saturday mornings would not be complete without hearing RSPCA President, Dr Hugh Wirth answering those wacky pet queries. Tune in after 10.30am to get your ‘fix’ of Dr Hugh.

At 11.30am, the pace changes when Tonya takes time to find out what’s coming up on ABC Grandstand followed by an interview with a well know Sporting personality.
