“We’re in an extinction event right now”: Four Corners investigation of Live Nation

Reporter Avani Dias has been speaking to industry insiders and musicians about the how the American multinational entertainment company Live Nation is dominating and squeezing out competition in Australia’s live music industry. The resulting investigation, Four Corners: Music For Sale airs next Monday October 14 at 8.30pm on ABC TV and ABC iview.

Over 1,300 venues have shut down and major festivals have been bought out, cancelled, and closed with Live Nation acquiring many smaller independent operators. This investigation reveals how the corporation, and its ticketing arm Ticketmaster, are maximising profits at the expense of both consumers and artists with many artists afraid to speak up for fear of the repercussions to their own careers.
