The last time a spider and a toilet featured on radio was in 1972 when the late, great John Pearce on 2GB suggested that he could make any song a hit, no matter how bad, with enough airplay.
To prove his point, he put Redback on the Toilet Seat by Slim Newton on high rotation – which was a lot given Pearce hosted a talk show. The song went on to peak at No. 3 on the Go-Set National Top 40.
Times have changed and the Top 40 is less important today than what’s trending on Twitter. I barely glance at the daily email that tells me what’s popular in my network but today’s caught my eye.
The next item after Stephen Fry’s much publicised marriage is about the spider (top right) that settled on Geelong K-Rock Drive announcer Stampsy’s (right) toilet roll. Given that it would have scared the proverbial out of her, there was no better place for her to be.
To demonstrate how popular radio is on Twitter, the next item down was a reminder that the newly branded KIIS in Melbourne goes to air tomorrow morning with Matt Tilley and Jane Hall (left) in Breakfast and Hughesy and Kate on Drive. We’d like to hear that!
