Wolfman back from the Dead

The Australian Radio Network (ARN) has bought the rights to hundreds of hours of tapes of legendary American broadcaster, Wolfman Jack.

WSFM Program Director, Graeme Edwards, has told radioinfo the station will broadcast The Wolfman Jack Show from tonight, starting on the dot of midnight.

Initially, a four hour show will play on Fridays and Sunday nights from 9pm, but there are also plans to air a nightly one hour show.

While Wolfman Jack died in 1995, his original shows have been digitally remastered to meet today’s broadcasting standards.

Edwards says the show will feature original interviews, commentary and classic hits – recreating The Wolfman Jack Shows of the ’70s and ’80s.

“Wolfman Jack is one of the most famous radio personalities of all time. During the rock’n’roll generation of the ’60s and ’70s, millions of people across America and overseas listened to Wolfman Jack for the howling sounds, banter and great music he played.”

Wolfman Jack started his long radio career at Mexico’s XERF in 1964, before moving to stations across the United States. He is best remembered for hosting NBC’s The Midnight Special, and being cast in the movie, ‘American Graffiti’, as well as for his various television appearances. The Wolfman Jack Show was originally syndicated to more than 2000 radio stations worldwide, including Australia.
