Women in Media has announced the launch of its annual survey, part of the organisation’s ongoing effort to gather comprehensive data on the experiences of women across all media disciplines.
Anita Jacoby AM, co-chair of Women in Media, emphasised the importance of this survey: “Your voice and views matter, whether you’re new to the industry or a seasoned professional. The Women in Media survey allows for confidential sharing of experiences related to gender equality, career progression, and access to support and resources.”
This survey aims to address the challenges faced by women in the media industry, including the significant gender pay gap highlighted in the Women in Media Industry Insight Report 2023. According to the report, 54% of women in media are either unsure or dissatisfied with their career progress, and the gender pay gap in the Information Media and Telecommunications industry stands at 24.2%, above the national average.
Women in Media encourages participation from all women working in various roles within the media, offering a platform to voice their experiences and contribute to creating a more inclusive and supportive industry. The findings from the survey will be utilised to guide the organisation’s efforts in fostering a community that accelerates career development, maximizes leadership potential, and promotes greater visibility for women in media.
The survey is open until Friday, 19 April 2024, and the results will be shared with participants, the media, government, and industry to further the conversation on improving gender equality in media workplaces.
Additionally, Women in Media is gearing up for its National Conference in Sydney on 9 August 2024.
