WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda Celebrity Dragon Boat Race

Jonesy has a score to settle.

Pride and bragging rights were on the line when WSFM’s Jonesy & Amanda went head-to-head on Saturday for Jonesy & Amanda’s Celebrity Dragon Boat Race as part of Sydney’s Chinese New Year celebrations.

Last year, Amanda’s Dragon Boat team snatched victory by one third of a second, but this year Jonesy was keen to settle the score and led his team to victory at Darling Harbour on Saturday.

Jonesy’s team included Steve ‘The Commando’ Willis, chef Colin Fassnidge, Bachelor star Matty J, gossip guru Richard Reid and presenter Kate Peck.

While Amanda’s team featured Real Housewives of Sydney star Melissa Tkautz, Living Room star Miguel Maestre, former American football player Colin Scotts and Christine Forster.

In the lead up to the event, both Jonesy & Amanda were busy recruiting celebrity team mates – but every guest requested to be on Amanda’s boat with the exception of entertainment guru Richard Reid.

Jonesy was worried about his empty boat, but on Friday Richard phoned into the show to say he had saved the day after recruiting members of The Stingers – Sydney LGBTIQ water polo club – to join their team.

And it proved to be a winning formula with Jonesy’s team claiming the trophy this year.

Dragon Boat racing has been a Chinese cultural institution for more than 2,000 years, and it’s now an international sport.

Celebrate the year of the dog at this year’s Sydney Chinese New Year Festival, on from February 16 until March 4.
