Futuristic hip hop group WZRDKID has taken out over 90 local Mildura acts to be selected to open triple j’s One Night Stand concert on 17 May.  
 
triple j wanted to give a local act the opportunity to play alongside acts Illy, RÜFÜS, Dan Sultan, Violent Soho and The Jungle Giants on the festival stage.
 
triple j said:
 
“Ultimately it was the futuristic hip hop of WZRDKID that stood out to us, among the tough local competition. Being removed from the influences of major capital cities, the duo of Chase Williams and James Cook make music that sounds rather alien in comparison to a lot of Aussie hip hop.” 
 
triple j will broadcast the entire event live on the radio, with Matt and Alex, and Zan Rowe bringing live sets and interviews from 2pm. The concert will also be broadcast live on ABC2 from 7pm with hosts The Doctor, Linda Marigliano and Lewi McKirdy.
