After dominating the last two Commonwealth Games, Australia is poised to repeat its previous successes in Manchester and ABC Local Radio will be there to broadcast all the drama and excitement live.
The coverage will commence on the morning of Friday 26 July with Tim Lane and Glenn Mitchell hosting the opening ceremony.
Over the following 10 days of competition, the ABC’s team of expert commentators will broadcast 14 hours of live, commercial free coverage from 7pm each evening.
Director ABC Radio, Sue Howard told AMT that ABC Local Radio “set new standards of sports broadcasting at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games” and the coverage of the Manchester Games will continue that tradition.
“We’ve assembled a quality commentary team for Manchester. Collectively they have years of broadcast experience in major international sporting events and are well equipped to provide insightful and accurate commentary for all Australians. We’re looking forward to some excellent competition and continued success for the Australian athletes,” said Howard.
ABC Local Radio’s coverage of the XVII Commonwealth Games commences with the Opening ceremony on Thursday 25 July and concludes with the closing ceremony on Sunday 4 August.
