This year’s Unearthed High competition begins

The Unearthed High competition is on again this year. Now in its 5th year, Triple J is looking for Australia’s best high school music act. This includes songwriters, bands, producers and MCs.

Participants are asked to upload an original track to triplejunearthed.com and include information on which high school they attend. At least half of the band members must still in high school, in order for them to be eligible.

Entries close at midnight on Monday 23 July. Triple J’s The Doctor gives advice on songwriting, rehearsing, recording, performing, and promotion on the station’s website.

The winning act will have their song professionally recorded at Triple J’s music studios. The song will then be played on Triple J and Triple J Unearthed. Triple J will also organize a concert at the winning applicant’s high school, supporting hip hop act Bliss n Eso.

Past winners Snakadaktal, Stonefield and Hunting Grounds have enjoyed subsequent success after winning Unearthed High. Last year’s winners Snakadaktal have sold out shows across the country, and their winning track ‘Air’ was voted in at #22 in last year’s Hottest 100. Previous winners Stonefield also played UK’s Glastonbury festival in 2011 – only a year after they won Unearthed High.
