In 1966 a banana farmer in far north Queensland saw something he couldn’t explain. It looked like a flying saucer and it left behind a circular mark in some reeds, which he called a ‘saucer nest’. That moment, the inspiration for an international alien hoax, is now explored further in the fourth of the ABC’s Expanse series, Expanse: Uncropped.
Hosted by Danielle O’Neal, Uncropped dives into the murky world of UFOs, exploring this story which became the source of the whole modern crop circle phenomenon as well as disinformation, everyone own’s version of the truth and pile-ons which are all still such relevant topics today.
She said:
“Making a UFO podcast is easier said than done – even just approaching people to talk about it is tough. You say UFO and people have widely different views on what that word even means. What if the human emotions that compel us to ridicule and judge what we don’t understand, are silencing our chance of figuring out what on earth is going on?”
“There’s all this unexplained and interesting stuff happening. Stuff that could answer the core question ‘are we alone’?”
Episode one and two of Expanse: Uncropped. All remaining episodes are released on Tuesday November 26th.
