Hamish & Andy #1, growth in Olympics listening: Triton Australian Podcast Ranker

Hamish & Andy are again #1 on the August Triton Australian Podcast Ranker, ABC News Top Stories #2, and Casefile True Crime #3. The top three publishers were still ARN/iHeart followed by LiSTNR (SCA) and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and LiSTNR Australia’s No 1 podcast sales representation network for a record 24th time.

This impact of the Paris Olympics was clear, 3AW Wide World of Sports debuted at 128 for Nine Radio and the ABC’s Roy and HG – Bludging on the Blindside was up 17 to #24. Most sports, Nine Radio and ABC news podcasts saw upticks in listening.

Other debuts included the true life and possibly true crime Hysterical (Wondery) (#73), Two Good Sports for ARN/iHeart (#151) and for SBS, Headline on Health (#145) and Weekend One on One (#179).

The true crime exploration of the Wieambilla police shootings from Nine Radio was up 52 places to debut in the top 20 at #14. The other big move in the top 50 was News Corp and Nova Entertainment‘s From The Newsroom, up 41 to 39, and also possibly due to Olympics catch ups.

The Kyle and Jackie O Show podcast was up 2 to #7 and the highest catch-up radio podcast. Life Uncut for Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne, who are also part of the KIIS Network, entered the top ten at 9. SCA’s Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki reentered the top 20 (up 7 to 15), while It’s a Lot with Abbie Chatfield dropped 10 to 28.

A final note is that no podcast on this ranker has exceeded a million monthly listeners since Hamish & Andy in November 2023. Podcast listening overall continues to grow and I see this slight drop over 12 months more due to the amount of competition for our time rather than a lesser desire to listen.
