The Triton Australian Podcast Ranker, for January 2025, has a new No 1 and it’s from American author and former lawyer Mel Robbins. The Mel Robbins podcast was up from #20 to 1, tripling its monthly listeners. Her tips for starting 2025 off on the right foot, and Let Them theory is resonating with Australian listeners.
January 2025 had an average weekly listenership of 5.5 million, a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2024. ARN iHeart was the top publisher and LiSTNR returned to No 1 for sales representation.
Three of the top 20 were US podcasts, Crime Junkie and Stuff You Should Know along with Mel Robbins. In the Spotify end of year Australian Podcast rankings, The Joe Rogan Experience, which has never featured on the Australian Podcast Ranker was No 1. Currently Mel Robbins is also No 1 on them too.
Casefile True Crime, which released no new episodes in January and dropped from 3-5, still with more than a million monthly downloads though, switched its sales, hosting and distribution from ARN iHeart to Acast last November. As Acast largely doesn’t feature on the Australian Podcast Ranker either, it may not appear in coming months.
Finally, from March to October last year Hamish and Andy was the No 1 podcast. Like Casefile True Crime the comedic duo has also released no new podcasts, except through their Remembering Project, which was up 7 to #16. However, if you compare Hamish and Andy from January 2024 to 25 you will see that over the course of the year, most likely due to listener ear competition, their listening audience has dropped, with monthly downloads from the same time last year down 150K.
