News, Society and Comedy top the November Australian Podcast Ranker

The November Triton Podcast Ranker reflects the country’s changing interests as Australians finish the working year and begin planning for summer holidays.

In an unsettled world, news is still the top ranked genre, with the top 5 genres this month also featuring sport (down 2 places) and comedy (up two places). Podcast listeners have also turned their thoughts to holiday planning.

Where you’re heading may shape what you’re listening to.

Demos+ data shows that among monthly podcast listeners planning an international holiday travel in the next year, 48% tune into Business podcasts (23% above the average monthly podcast listener), while 47% listen to Health & Fitness, and 45% each listen to Technology and to Sports.

Domestic holiday travellers tell a different story, with 50% listening to Arts and 48% each listening to News, Health & Fitness or True Crime.

The takeaway for brands? Turn up in the podcast queue and catch travellers’ interest before they’ve even opened a booking app.

In the top ten podcasts this month, Hamish and Andy remain at the top of the ranker, followed by Mamamia Out Loud, up one place, then ABC News Top Stories, down one place.

Gary Jubilin’s I Catch Killers podcast has also moved into the top ten, as has Happy Hour with Lucy and Nikki.

Lizzie Young, CEO of CRA said: “Podcasts travel with Australians – literally. Whether it’s an overseas adventure or an interstate escape, listeners are tuning in across genres, anytime, anywhere. The Ranker gives advertisers the verified data to understand these audiences and reach them through voices they already trust on their own terms.”

Stephen Haddad, SCA’s Chief Operating Officer said: “The latest Triton Australian Podcast Ranker results highlight the strength of LiSTNR’s premium content, and its ongoing commercial success. Hamish & Andy continue to lead the ranker, reflecting their consistent year on year strength in engaging audiences, and highlighting their team’s focus on creating compelling content, while Happy Hour with Lucy & Nikki and The Imperfects also performed strongly again this month.

“With its content slate, LiSTNR offers some of the most compelling female voices, including Mel Robbins, Happy Hour, Call her Daddy, It’s A Lot with Abbie Chatfield, KICPOD and Darling Shine. Alongside a strong lineup of sport and comedy titles like The Grade Cricketer, Howie Games (with 245,522 monthly listeners, up 31%) and Willow Talk Cricket Podcast (which grew by 63%), LiSTNR’s unique access to diverse audiences delivers market leading results for advertisers. LiSTNR’s ‘best in class’ approach to co-creation, AdTech and commercialisation continues to attract new podcasters and partners like Big Small Talk, with more new podcasts to be announced early next year.

“LiSTNR continues to drive the commercial podcast industry, once again outpacing the market. Our ongoing investment in AdTech, product innovation, and premium podcast titles, ensures we remain at the forefront, driving stronger demand for podcast advertising and delivering exceptional results for our clients.”

The CRA/Triton Podcast Ranker is Australia’s third-party verified podcast measurement system, governed by a cross-industry Steering Committee and backed by strong collaboration across commercial, independent, and non-commercial publishers. It sets the benchmark for podcast data in Australia. It does not include some international podcasts that have not joined the ranker system.
