Who wouldn’t want to savour and share a moment with Myf Warhust?
Myf has a new podcast, The Moment, launching Tuesday September 16 and bringing with it a thrice weekly deep dive into the stories and people making headlines with her typical panache, intelligence, curiosity and wit. Each episode will feature conversations on topics ranging from music, celebrity commentary, TV and film to global events and cultural moments that we want to make head and tails of.
This is a new chapter for Myf, building her own personal brand and controlling her own narrative.
Before I caught up with her, I thought about just how much of a team player she has been. Team Captain on the wonderful, music trivia laden, comedy television quiz show Spicks and Specks, celebrating 20 years this year, alongside Alan Brough and host Adam Hills. Long time triple j radio presenter, first contributing to Merrick and Rosso and later, briefly, on breakfast as part of Myf, Jay and the Doctor before joining Peter Helliar on Triple M Melbourne.
She was also an early podcast enthusiast with her friend and triple j colleague Zan Rowe and Bang On. The pair took a hiatus at the end of last year after a national tour to mark 300 episodes and 7 years. Part of my admiration for Myf stems from Zan and Myf’s devotion to each other despite an environment that could have been competitive. Whenever Myf speaks Zan’s name she not only lights up but speaks her up. The two are tight.
Then there’s her role alongside Nova’s Joel Creasey commentating Eurovision and an ongoing role as the voice of Aunt Trixie for cult kids TV show Bluey. The woman is a rockstar but has shared most of her life as part of an incorporated. This is something for Myf, driven by her, with editorial control.
The Moment with Myf Warhurst has serendipity too. Myf’s concept was taken to MIK Studio where Myf re-met Amelia Chappelow, Head of Content and Podcast Executive Producer.
Amelia said:
“I first worked with Myf almost twenty years ago; seeing her career continue to evolve and reconnecting at this turning point has been exciting, With The Moment, we’re giving audiences more of what they love about Myf – her wit, her warmth, and her unique ability to make every cultural conversation feel both smart and relatable.”
Smart, relatable and oh so cool. There is something about Myf. Cool but kind. Relatable but rockstar. Smart but self-deprecating, she said she could be a right mole sometimes when we spoke.
I don’t believe her.
I do believe that people approach her as if they’ve been friends for years. That’s her magic. And what this podcast offers. She’s already demonstrated her ability to speak to bigger conversations like perimenopause and menopause to a sense of home and place. She has no fear of the highs and lows of everyday life. Myf connects with all of us who want to feel both entertained and understood.
She said:
“I hope to filter life and make it make sense. The audience is part of the show. I get my audience because I am it. We’ll welcome all comers. This is the realisation of a dream to make something that is mine but sharing that goodness with everyone. We’ll look at what’s happening today with people who know and can broaden mine and your understanding.
There is a real appetite for daily pop culture analysis delivered in a smart, snappy format.
Frankly, everyone is time poor, but they still love to be across the big cultural stories, mostly so they can participate in the chat in the office, playground, or with friends. This podcast and vodcast will help them do just that.”
The Moment with Myf Warhurst launches tomorrow Tuesday September 16 with new episodes every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. You can listen wherever you get your podcasts and watch on YouTube.
