Part of what Christian O’Connell and his Gold 104.3 team like to do is show you what goes on behind the scenes as well as on-air. After the surprise announcement on Monday that Jack Post would be departing after seven years, Christian and producers Caitlin and Rio (Caitlin McArthur and Riordan Lee) have released a bonus podcast episode reflecting on the news, how it all happened and how everyone is feeling.

Christian said:

“Nothing else has happened other than last week, he called me genuinely out of blue on a Wednesday afternoon and actually just blew up his whole life and said, I think I need to leave the show. And so, we had a lot of chats over the next two or three days. I asked him to take the rest of the week off last week while he worked through it. This is something that’s been troubling him for a while, and he said on the show that there’s a calling for him to leave. There is nothing lined up for Jack, which a lot of people are struggling over that bit.

In the almost seven years of me doing the show, this is the biggest thing for the show in a way of like losing you know. It started literally from show one with Pats (Patrina Jones) and Jack, and Jack was the very first person I hired as I built the team. So it’s a moment in the show’s history and also our lives together as well.

One thing you know about me is no one gets more energised and comes alive through transitions and change. I live for that. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here in Australia with you guys. I would have stayed on a show that had two and a half million listeners that was going very well.”

Jack’s final day is this Friday, May 23. There is some further big news on the future of the show in the coming weeks.
