Alan Jones prepares himself for “my most nervous moment” with Hampton Court

IT is a childhood memory that stays with him to this day — sitting by the radio every Saturday afternoon listening to the races with his father… listening to the Saturday races was a way of life for most Australians, particularly in rural areas. This is where Jones’s passion for racing was born.        It is a long way from the dusty, country roads of Acland to famous Flemington on Derby Day but this is where life’s journey has taken Alan Jones. He is a part-owner of Hampton Court, the hot favourite for Saturday’s $1.5 million Victoria Derby (2500m), the oldest classic in Australian racing.
