PBA-FM was formed in 1978 with a full license granted in late 1982 and its first broadcast in 1983. Bronwen Whyatt joined as station manager in October 2024. She is an Adelaide-born cellist, writer, teacher and artist. While living in Melbourne, to pursue a childhood dream Bronwen turned up to 3MBS in Melbourne and asked if there were any opportunities to train as presenter of classical music. She later presented Choral Masterworks for 3 years, and later the breakfast show.

Bronwen loves the richness of PBA-FM’s first nations and multicultural programs and being able to provide an accessible radio station for people with disabilities to explore their love of music. She said:

“PBA-FM is a well-loved and supported northern suburbs station, and this week we’re giving our listeners a chance to put their money where their ears are, to support all the programs they love to listen to each week. Over the next year, we’re on the move, with some significant capital improvements to ensure our sound future. We’re seeking financial support from our listeners to carry out upgrades to our equipment.

Volunteers are the heart of PBA-FM. We’ve had a dedicated group of volunteers who staff our reception, who have been contacting potential sponsors to donate prizes. They have worked hard over the past few months to give our listeners some tangible benefits to donate. It has been a great learning experience for all of us, and we’ve been assisted by staff at the CBAA and some great insights from PBS in Melbourne.”
