Balloons, surprises and special tributes for Rosie Walton’s 30th anniversary in radio

In Melbourne this morning it was a whole lotta Rosie as Triple M’s breakfast team of Mick Molloy, Titus O’Reilly and the essence of Nick Riewoldt (see main image) marked Rosie Walton’s 30th anniversary in radio. There were balloons, surprises and tributes from some big names in sport and entertainment who clearly adore her.

Rosie started as a panel operator at Triple M going on to be part of The Shebang, Tough Love, The Cage, The Hot Breakfast, The Rush Hour and just prior to this lineup, Triple M Breakfast with Rosie, Wil & Daisy (Wil Anderson and Dale ‘Daisy’ Thomas).

Wil, Daisy, James Brayshaw, Billy Brownless, Jane Kennedy, Eddie McGuire, Luke Darcy, Lee Simon and more all honoured Rosie’s contribution to Melbourne radio, music culture and a strong female voice at traditionally blokey Triple M (or an idiot, was Rosie’s tongue in cheek response to this).

Mick Molloy said:

“There should be a march for Rosie Walton one day. She is the best in the business. In this environment, not just survive, but flourish inside radio shows how good Rosie is at what she does.”

Jane Kennedy said:

“You are the true queen of radio. I admire you so much, your ability to work with so many different people and personalities is to be absolutely commended. Your own talent and intelligence and insight into music is inspiring.”

Wil Anderson, said:

“If everyone in the world did their job with the passion, the humour, the commitment, the care for their colleagues and the audience that Rosie did, the world would be a thousand percent better overnight.”

Rosie responded at the conclusion of the show, saying:

“That was overwhelming. Seriously, thank you very much. This is the best job in the world and I’m so grateful for all the opportunities afforded to me.”
