102.9 Triple M has remained the clear leader in Newcastle in GfK Survey 2 with other stations seeing growth in key demographics. 105.3 NEW FM and triple j picked up youth listeners aged 10-17 with the latter leading in the region in 18-24s. SCA‘s Hit 106.9 held their key 25-39s with the 40+ audience listening to Triple M. It was also a good survey for the local ABC who poached audience, particularly at breakfast, from the Super Radio Network’s 2HD.
Tanya Wilks and Steve Graham (pictured) on Triple M breakfast, despite a 1.4% drop, still hold a commanding lead as they have for virtually all the 11 years they have been on air together. The rest were largely steady with Hit 106.9 and Jess and Ducko on breakfast gradually closing the gap between 1&2. New FM moved ahead of triple j to sit third overall.
The most improved timeslot was Hit Network Nights up 6.6% to lead in evenings. Overall listening was steady too with ABC Newcastle and NEW FM seeing the most improvement in the cumes.
SCA Head of Regional Content, Blair Woodcock, said of the results:
“We’re proud of today’s survey results, which reaffirm SCA’s dominant position in Newcastle, especially in the all-important 25-54 ‘Audience That Matters’ demographic. SCA remains the clear #1 network in this key audience, reaching more than 60% of locals.
It’s fantastic to see both Triple M and Hit continue to lead the market with the biggest Breakfast audiences in town – each attracting 105,000 listeners – and maintaining the two largest audiences’ station-wide. At Triple M, Tanya & Steve continue their juggernaut run, delivering another #1 Breakfast result (23.2% share) thanks to engaging live and local content like the hugely successful ‘Date My Mate’ live dating event and in-studio music performances.
Meanwhile on Hit 106.9, Jess & Ducko’s(Jess Farchione and Nick ‘Ducko’ Allen-Ducant) dynamic and laugh-out-loud moments are resonating strongly with listeners, lifting their Breakfast share to a 16.1% share.
Congratulations to our Newcastle teams on a result that reflects their hard work, creativity, and connection with audiences – it’s fantastic to see their efforts deliver a standout result in the 25-54 demographic for SCA today.”
