The Golden Bachelor launched on the Nine Network yesterday with 20 women vying to win the heart of 61 year old Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden. On Nova’s The Chrissie Swan Show, host Chrissie Swan and anchor Jack Charles caught up with Sam Armytage to chat about Bear and the Golden Bachelor women including radio presenter Bianca Dye and Abbie Chatfield‘s mum Laura, plus the reasons for Sam’s good health.
Chrissie: Are you tired of people talking about your body as I am?
Sam: Look, no, I’m not sick. I mean, give me compliments. Come on! I’m never going to reject a compliment. You know, I am at a really nice time in my life. I’m feeling really, most importantly, strong and healthy and happy. And I put this down to last year I had a hip replacement, a childhood of ski racing had literally torn all the cartilage out of my right hip, so I got a new hip. So in the lead up to that, the last couple of years, I haven’t been that active because I had been in a lot of pain, so I had a major operation last year, and from that, I sort of woke up out of that, literally feeling a bit renewed and refreshed, and not in chronic pain. And I’ve been doing lots of yoga ever since, because when you have a joint replaced, you don’t want to have the other joints replaced. We all get to this age where things start to change and creak. So I’ve just been working on fitness and health. So look, the compliments are lovely. Keep them coming. But you know, I feel good, and that’s the most important thing, when you feel good, and then you look good, so it’s secondary.
Jack: Abbie Chatfield’s Mum’s a hoot!
Sam: She’s a hoot. Laura is great. And let me tell you, Abbie, the apple did not fall far from the tree. She is like, Laura is very similar… a real firecracker.
Chrissie: How long have you been on television? It feels like a million years, and you’re only 27!
Sam: Oh, love you. 25 years.
Chrissie: Wow, same as me, very similar to me, actually.
Sam: Yeah, it’s a long time, isn’t it? I know where all the bodies are buried!
The Chrissie Swan Show can be heard from 2pm to 4pm on the Nova Network Nationally.
