Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren, and Clint Stanaway broadcast live from LA on the first day of their California Road trip and enjoyed a horse and mechanical bull rides, a night of karaoke and a catch up with Jimmy Kimmel.
Jase Hawkins: [LA] really is a playground. Just the first 24 hours of being here. I was sitting there last night going, Am I in a dream? So we touched down, landed about 7am yesterday. The first thing we did was we went off to a saddle ranch.
Lauren Phillips: … So one thing you must do when you come to California, into LA in particular, is visit the Hollywood site… So we thought we must go up there for ourselves. Now, there’s many ways you can hike. You can drive and then do a bit of a hike. You can, I don’t know, you can probably fly a helicopter over, not us. No, we went on horseback!… We got a beautiful glimpse of the Hollywood sign. Now, they did say the horses like, because it is quite steep, they like going on the edge of the cliff, that’s how they walk, because they like eating the grass. Well, the big boy [Jase] did not cope with the horse walking close to the edge.
Clint: Lauren, he was quite stiff, wasn’t he? He was a stiff rider, sort of like this, the whole way up. We’re like, come on, use the hips!
Lauren: And at one point, the lady was like, okay, you’re leaning a little too far to the left at the moment. And I was like, he is about to fall off!
American television host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel caught up with the team after filming one of his shows. He shared his nerves returning to air and his affections for Australians revealing that a hilarious story he told Margot Robbie was actually about Lauren’s fiancé:
Lauren: You had one of the most famous Australians in the world on your show. I think it was last week or the week before, Margot Robbie, and she was telling a story about showing a screening for her new film. And she was saying. It got a bit rowdy. I’m just gonna quickly play this…
Jimmy: Because I’ve noticed in my travels that Australian people… you know, there’s one like person at the party who’s the craziest, drunkest, person that stays up till 5am and can’t understand that you want to go to bed. All Australian people are that same person… and maybe the most fun people in the whole world as a result of that…
Lauren: Were you thinking about anyone in particular when you were telling that story?
Jimmy:… Well, I was talking about Paulie, as you know, who is the life of the party.
Jase: This is Lauren’s fiance, big Paul.
Lauren: I saw this and I texted to Paul and I texted to Jimmy, and I was like, is this by any chance about my fiance?
Jimmy: And what did I respond? What did I say?
Lauren: Yes, yes, yes. And absolutely yes!
Jimmy: But Australians, really, I have to say… I have a lot of Australian celebrities come and visit the show and, of course, I have some friends who are not celebrities, who are Australian, and they tend to be, I won’t say everyone is, but they tend to be the best, the best people… the most fun, the most gregarious, the most really like interested, not just jumping around being crazy, but interested in you.
