Kaleidoscope of Gaze – new podcast series created to celebrate Pride Month

Singer-songwriter and producer Kris Zar has launched a new Pride Month podcast Kaleidoscope of Gaze celebrating LGBT+ voices, stories, and lived experiences.

Explores LGBT+ history through deeply personal stories of coming out, identity, creativity, love, and resilience, Kaleidoscope of Gaze sees Kris’s guests from different generations and artistic backgrounds share what it truly means to live and grow as an LGBT+ person in changing times.

The first episode features acclaimed writer, journalist, activist, and founder of the Polari Prize, Paul Burston. Paul reflects on growing up gay in Wales, the shame and isolation he experienced as a teenager, and how the music and cultural influence of David Bowie helped him navigate his mental wellbeing and identity.

Playwright Shelley Silas speaks about the rise of antisemitism, her personal relationships, creative life, and the importance of acceptance and women’s rights, including the rights of transgender women.

Painter Gavin Dobson asks whether there is such a thing as distinctly queer art, and offers insight into his creative process and lived experience of aphantasia.

And, South Australian born, West End leading man and vocal coach Daniel Koek discusses the challenges gay performers can face in securing leading roles, as well as the pressures of age and ageism within the industry.

Host Kris Zar said:

“Everything can feel like a show on social media nowadays, and sometimes incredibly talented and creative people don’t get the attention they deserve. I wanted to create something that highlights just how much talent, creativity, and insight the LGBT+ community brings to the wider world.”

The first two episodes of Kaleidoscope of Gaze are out now with all six released across Pride Month and on major podcast platforms.

A special accompanying music single, also titled Kaleidoscope of Gaze, will be released in mid-June alongside the podcast.
