This Friday, June 19, Star 106.3 breakfast hosts Adam and Donny are going to wear a hole in the ground around the big Townsville sign, running a marathon, plus some, to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House.
But, they won’t be doing the “Townsville Sign Marathon and a half” alone. Adam and Donny have called on some famous mates and the entire Townsville community to come down, “Donate a Lap,” and
help them get get through 1,376 of them – a full 63.3 kilometres!
Adam Davison is not sure that he and Donny have that distance in them and have asked people to come down and keep them going:
“Bravus Mining & Resources have pledged $1 per lap, so every lap walked, jogged, or crawled
by the team and the community means real money for families in need.
The response from local legends has been massive, we’ve had listeners already calling the
station promising to show up rain, hail, or shine to help us survive, and thrive.”
Donny Watkin said although they are running to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House
Charities, the biggest fear is extreme chafing:
“We are really hoping the community will bring more than just their running legs; a bit of extra
anti-chafe cream wouldn’t go astray either.
The marathon and a half is also a massive shout-out to the McDonald’s Townsville Running
Festival taking place on August 2nd so we are hoping to build hype for the city’s premier running
event while also raising extra funds.”
The course was officially mapped by measurement expert Ross from the Townsville Running Festival, and every runner who comes down on the day will receive a special race bib to prove they did their bit.

“We will be broadcasting live on 106.3 for the entire duration, and for those listeners unable to
join in person, the whole thing will be live streamed on the Star 106.3 Facebook page and even
feature pace tracking and lap-counting stats,” Adam said.
Those confirmed already to “Donate a Lap” include sporting stars Matty Bowen, Terry Campese and James Tamou, the Mayor Nick Dametto and other MPs, members of the SES, the Australian Defence Force (ADF), and Fire Fighters, The Pimlico High School Marching Band and everyone else is welcomed.
The event kicks off Friday, June 19 at 6.00am until approximately 1.00pm at The Big Townsville Sign in Central Park.
