The latest Xtra Insights survey of Mackay and the Whitsundays in Queensland yielded great results for SCA stations Triple M and Hit with the longstanding Triple M breakfast team of Jay & Dave (Jay Shipston and Dave Peters – pictured) seizing top spot.
Jay & Dave were up 2.1% to hold 23.5% audience preference. Hit’s Bronte and Lakey, in their final regional survey, were up 2.8 to 18.9%.
Phil Bradley, Head of Triple M Regional Content said:
“Congratulations to our Triple M Mackay and The Whitsundays team on an outstanding survey. After more than 15 years on air and 3,560 shows together, Jay & Dave have once again proven the strength of enduring and trusted local radio by claiming the Number 1 Breakfast show in Mackay, proving just how important a role they play in the lives of locals.
“Triple M Mackay’s Number 1 results across all dayparts show that whether you’re broadcasting from major local events, championing regional issues, celebrating local successes, or simply providing a daily touchpoint for the community, Triple M continues to build deep and lasting relationship with its audience.”
It was unfortunately an awful result for ARN‘s Star 101.9. In 2025 they were No 1 preferred in every day part and weekends. New breakfast duo Scotty and Kaley dropped 9.5 to 14.7%. Dylan Finch on mornings and Patty Doran on afternoons both lost 23% audience share.
ARN’s AM station, 4MK fared considerably better doubling its share in every day part and cracking a 10% preferred station for audience 10+.
ABC Tropical North also took a hit, particularly in breakfast.
Hit, Triple M and 4MK all picked up around 9000 additional cume audience. Star shed near 16,000.
